2016 was a great year for Epix Media and our clients! We asked our team to look back and share their highlights, which is an incredibly difficult task for all of us as we have so many projects that happen throughout the year and each one is rewarding for its own reasons! But here it goes…
Building the University of Lincoln Careers Website
I like that I’m helping students that are in the same position I was in. I found getting on the career ladder stressful with little information available online. I like that I’ve contributed towards making that process easier for students in the future and that I’ve given something back to the University that helped to get me where I am.
Winning a challenge at the Lincoln Hack
It was great to talk to other developers and grow as a developer myself, be able to demonstrate our skills, learn about different ways of working and push myself. Rewarding to do something outside of comfort zone and win! It also helped to improve my presenting skills and confidence talking in front of groups of people.
Lincoln Business Awards
I think for me one of my biggest highlights was this year’s Lincolnshire Business Awards – both editing the nominee videos and attending the event. I really enjoyed editing the videos because all of the contributors had achieved awesome things, so it felt like I was just editing with a constant smile on my face. As an editor, it’s always really nice to be able to help someone shout about themselves and their accomplishments when they can at times find it difficult to do so themselves. Also attending the awards ceremony was great because I’d never been to an event like that as a guest. The whole night was inspirational and fun in equal measures, and I really enjoyed seeing our work on a big screen – it’s a real highlight of my year to have heard 150+ people applauding our videos.
Shooting Star “Star Proposal”
Another highlight for me from the very beginning of the year was creating the animated Star Proposal video for Shooting Star. Not only was it a very cute, and very fun project to work on, but it was also the first big piece of work I had done alongside Ben (our Graphic Designer), so it was really good have his input and discuss how best to bring the story to life.
I also really enjoyed the Lincoln Hack, it was great to be part of something new to Lincoln and see the tech industry growing in the area! It was really fun to come up with ideas to maximise our sponsorship and creating a challenge. We learnt loads of new things and of course it was awesome to win one of the other challenges too!
This year our design team started to work with Fenner Precision, who we’d previously worked for in a video capacity. We worked with them on a big brand revamp and are now in the process of overhauling all of their sales and marketing materials with lots of fun projects in the pipeline! It’s a big project and a big achievement for the company and for me personally.
This year we built a bespoke online ordering system for school dinner provider Kidz Kitchen. This was a big project for us and the client and it was great to spend the time learning about the needs of their customers (both the schools and the parents) and design a system that fulfilled this. The project is ongoing and over the year we’ve added various new features to the system, proving we’ve built something thats truely flexible and will grow with their business!
Guy Martin Wall of Death timelapse
This year we’ve worked on some incredible projects, but this one was something quite different! We were asked by North One Television to timelapse the build of a the largest Wall Of Death ever made, where Guy Martin would attempt to break the world record for the fastest speed. Clips from our timelapse would then be broadcast during the live show on Channel 4 to millions of viewers.
The timelapse needed to be very high quality and required a custom mount due to the obscure camera position, so the project really tested our capabilities, but with careful planning we overcame big challenges to deliver footage of the build ready for broadcast.
We were privileged to be part of a top-secret project, and the whole team got to go to the live recording to watch the record being broken. Well done Guy!
Goodbye 2016, we’re hoping 2017 will be our best year yet!
